I still couldn't get rid of, say a ton of SDK packages, despite me even uninstalling all them manually (!) from the Package Cache folder in Windows. Plus, after I had run several uninstaller tools including custom removal scripts etc. ("Problems" such as old references in the registry to stuff I already removed, like Visual Studio 14.0 for example)
CCLeaner can even find, it seems to be safe to me yet finds lots of problems. (Of course I made registry backups, just in case).Įven when I set it to "deep scan" and then just went crazy cleaning much (!) more than eg. It found many problems and I actually had it swipe all of them without me manually checking on their safety. I am surprised what a good job Wise Care 365 does. But I just wanted to get rid of lots of stuff which I couldn't deinstall/remove the normal way). (Mind you: I am not in the slightest saying that cleaning the registry "speeds up" a PC. So my goal was to find one that is safe to use, but also one that can indeed find lots of problems in the registry.
I also had one review where they compared cleaners side-by side and the numbers of "errors" they found. The popular CCLeaner has a very mild registry scanning function and has always been safe for years, but it really doesn't dig deep into the registry, at all. To get an idea how safe but also how thorough they are, I checked several review sites and let a bunch of the "recommended"registry cleaners run to see how much "errors" they find and what they consider "errors". Many "registry cleaners" are either absurdly dangerous and some would hose a Windows install entirely. There, they are good, but useless if you need to dig deeper. The usual uninstaller programs like Revo or Iobit are relatively worthless for "deeper" cleaning and removing as they are mostly for Desktop applications. My goal was to declutter my machine as good as I could, and I had a whole barrage of tools ready, namely "Patch Cleaner", "Installer Cleanup Script", as well as even some custom PowerShell scripts. I am familiar with uninstallers (Revo, Iobit etc.) and of course I have my fair share with so-called "registry cleaners", from JV16 to CCleaner to Auslogics to Youname it. In particular I had a hosed Visual Studio install (Visual Studio 14.0, but also Visual Studio 15.0) where I faced the absurd task needing to manually remove/uninstall the zillions of leftover components, namely SDKs and much more. I have a Win10 machine which over the years accumulated lots of stuff. Also, I have no relationship with that company who is making Wise Care Likewise, I am fairly experienced with Windows and build PCs for a long time, so this may help with context. and I am otherwise not keen on so-called maintenance and PC speedup software. HEAR ME OUT first! I know about the nonsense of "registry cleaners" etc.
